If you avoid riding when there’s snow on the roads, this is the bike you need: a Burley Runabout 7 with a pair of Nokian Mount & Ground studded snow tires. (Also included is a pair of Ritchey “Tom Slick” summer tires.)

The bike has a steel frame & fork, made in Oregon, with a 7-speed SRAM hub with drum brake, and a Shimano mechanical disk brake in front. Also included are a Burley rear rack, toe clips & yellow Planet Bike “Freddy Fenders.” With the internal-geared hub you don’t have a problem with the freewheel turning into a block of ice in a sleet storm and losing all the gears except one, as you do with a conventional derailleur-equipped bike. The tires have 160 tungsten carbide studs (each) and show no sign of wear. You can ride with confidence on stuff you can’t even stand up on. Once the snow melts just change over to the “Tom Slick” tires and it’s a great bike for summer commuting too.

I believe the size is “small;” seat tube is 16-1/2″ with a standover height of 28-1/2″. I’m about 5′-7″ with a 29″ inseam and it fits me pretty well. I bought this bike in September 2004 and put about 3200 miles on it; I would still be riding it if we hadn’t moved to the foothills. It’s just not geared low enough for the 20% grades leading up to my house, but it’s more than adequate for riding around town.

Paid over $1250 new (bike, fenders, tires); asking $700.

Absolutely New Campy Chainring. I purchased this at VeloSwap several years ago in anticipation of eventually replacing the large chainring on my 2003 Chorus Group. At the time I did not realize there was a difference in the configuration of my Chorus crank compared to a Record crank. The relationship of the crank arm to the spider arms differs between the two groups. Unfortunately this difference does not allow the pin that prevents the chain from jamming between the crank arm and the spider arm(if you happen to overthrow the large chainring) to properly align with the crank arm on my Chorus crank. I just found this out earlier this year when I went to change the big chain ring. This chainring will fit my Chorus crank but the offset pin looks a little odd. It might also catch on loose clothing if not careful. It is my understanding that this may align on later Chorus cranks. If in doubt, purchase for Record crank only. I think this will be clear once you look at the picture. Note the location of the pin in question.

For use with 10 speed 52×39 drive train.
